I said at the time that if they are building something brand new, then by default, whatever we already have shouldn't run on it, because if it's compatible it cannot be a brand new game engine, can it? Of course I'm only assuming here.On the Steam forum earlier this year a DTG employee, can't remember who it was now, stated that the Unreal Engine version is a new build entirely, and subsequently, will be considered something new to run alongside your TS2016 / TS2017, which of course prompted the question will our present content be compatible to run on it, but, I don't think there was an answer to that as they probably didn't know what was happening at the time, they possibly still don't know, so, until they announce something concrete it's all going to be speculation and rumours. I would imagine TSxxxx will run as long as people are using it. Both the Unreal version and TSxxxx will both be running side by side on Steam that's if DTG use Steam for the Unreal version. If you are referring to the Unreal version yes you can by not buying it.
